Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the things students ask most.

Do I need an account?

No — you can chat as a guest. But nothing is saved: no chat history, no tasks, no quick checks, no documents library. Signing in is free and takes a minute.

Is Canvas required?

No. Without it, DueFirst simply won't claim to know your deadlines — it'll tell you it has no coursework data instead of guessing. With it, answers reference your real assignments.

Can DueFirst change anything in Canvas?

No. Canvas access is read-only. It can read assignments, grades, announcements, quizzes, and syllabus text. It cannot submit, edit, or delete anything.

Why did I get 0/10 on something I definitely passed?

Canvas auto-grades machine-checkable questions instantly and leaves teacher-graded parts unscored, which reads as a zero. DueFirst flags this rather than telling you that you failed.

Why does it ask me questions before answering?

Because the answer changes depending on your level, how deep you want to go, and how much time you have. You can always skip, or turn the clarifying-questions slider down to 0 in Settings.

Why did it refuse to just write my essay?

It's a study coach. It'll outline, unpack the prompt, give you worked examples, and tear your draft apart — but handing in generated prose as your own can break your school's rules, and that's on you.

Can it be wrong?

Yes. AI responses can be incomplete or wrong. Verify deadlines, grades, and factual claims against your course materials and Canvas before relying on them.

What's a temporary chat?

A chat that's never saved. Nothing shows in the sidebar and closing it drops the conversation — good for one-off questions.

Where do my generated PDFs and Word files go?

They download straight away and are filed in your Documents library, where you can re-download them, open the chat they came from, or delete them.

How do I delete my data?

Delete chats, tasks, and documents individually in the app any time. For full account deletion, email us and we'll remove it.

Does DueFirst sell my data?

No. We don't sell your data and we don't use your coursework for advertising. See the privacy policy for what we collect and which processors we rely on.

How old do I have to be?

DueFirst is intended for students aged 13 and older.
